FAQs

1. When did the band start?

Ans: Late 1996

2. How did the band got it's name?

Ans: The band started as an outlet for Jerby's personal songs. The band, then a power trio, was called Santo Trio ( Ala Juliana Hatfield Trio...:) ). Eventually new members were added, thus the change of the name became necessary, more so that there were up and coming gigs. The band members could not think of anything cool or profound, so Raymund decided with Campo Xanto (cemetery) , just for the heck of it and as parody on the mid-90s fascination with death metal, more like Nu Metal these days. Most  bands in Tacloban at that time had death metal influences and had names that was associated with the scene. So the band thought that it was really hilarious for a band that played post punk pop to have the name Campo Xanto. We were not really serious about the whole thing so we didn't give much of a thought for the name, until we got more gigs than we expected. Two years later, we wanted to change the name  to DRAG REVOLT but the name Campo Xanto stucked already. However, a Roman Catholic priest said that the actual translation of Campo Xanto is "Sacred Fields". So maybe the name is not that bad at all.

3. Who are the band members?

Ans:

Guitar: Hector Allen Yu

Guitar: Jean Paul Verona

Bass: Raymund Elona

Drums: Kevin Palaņa

Keyboards: Perry Michael Pancho

3. Did the band join any "Battle of the Bands"?

Ans: Like most indie bands in the Philippines, Campo Xanto had it's share in band competitions..

1999 Champion Tacloban San Miguel Battle of the Bands

2000 Champion Tacloban San Miguel Battle of the Bands

2000 Grand Prize Winner Red Horse Muziklaban Dos, Cebu City

4. Campo Xanto was supposed to have a record deal with EMI and an exposure at Channel V as a part of its prize in the Red Horse Muziklaban Dos. What happened to that?

Ans: Two years have passed and San Miguel Corporation has yet to honor it's commitment to the band. A country brand manager of Red Horse once spoke to Jerby about the matter but nothing has come out from the conversation. We are hoping San Miguel read this.

5. How does one get a demo CD of Campo Xanto?
