Asin Live in Tacloban - Asin
was awesome. Pinoy roots music rules. We bravely played our waray
originals to a mammoth crowd who didn't know how to react to our
music. At least most of them we're smiling during our set. Amused,
maybe..:) River Maya, Tacloban
charter day gig - Surprisingly, a
considerable number of people sang with our originals. T'was
amazing, It was raining hard yet people stayed on our set. Salamat
utro ha iyo ngatanan. Concert By the Bay-
The winds and the rains were
pummeling Balyuan Park during this gig. There were around 12 people
watching us in duration of our gig. One of the most dangerous gigs
we ever had. The stage was all wet and some of the cables that we
were using were not insulated well. However, we were rocking like it
was armageddon. Basta ganado.
May Botched
Gigs - Two gigs for April
didn't push through. Shit happens and it's ok. One of those
days. It means that if there is a bad day then there should be good
days up ahead. :) May 14 Tacloban
Gig -God willing this gig is going
to happen. Details later. May 23 -
Borongan, Eastern Samar with LSR
and 5 Seasons.
April The Tacloban
Underground Scene Reunion- Them old
wunderkinds were there. Joseph Say of Soda/Early Unseen belting STP
songs, Tea Shirt rocking like it was 1997, Joel of Skunk Cabbage,
Joey and friends, and of course the ultimate scenester of the
city, Gogo Aņover... great moments. Rock
Against War -
We had a short set for the
Rock Against War gig in Sunzibar. That was on March 15, 3 days
before Bush declared the war on Iraq. Bands and solo performers from
the Tacloban area played for free to send the message of peace. We
were able to get 3 boxes of food and a box of used clothing for the
refugees in Cotabato. back
to top February Gigs-
Campo Xanto performed last
valentine's day at the One Night Stand gig. The crowd was guarded and
was there to see the show band from Cebu. It was somehow a stalemate
because many of them realized that we were not a death or a gothic
band after all. We got many gig proposals after the show. Thanks to
5 seasons for the support We also
performed in the awarding of the MITACTA competition last February
18. together with Dinomingo, LSR, 5 Seasons and Dread
Spot. UP
Rocks ! - We performed at the UP
Tac soccer field last Feb. 28 courtesy of UP Vista. It was a
great gig! Every one was doing the proto ethno dancing, really wild
and cool. back

Balangiga Album - Here's a letter
from the producer of the album, Becky Lozada.. Dear
Rey, Cooky, Lourd, Annette, Jerby, Kris, Noel, Monette,
Hi! I saw some of you at the Peace Camp. Great work! First, my
apologies if I caused some confusion on Balangiga and the Peace
Camp. I had an initial discussion with PC organizers and we had
planned to allot two hours for Balangiga between 8-10 on the first
day of the Camp. Unfortunately, I was only in Manila for three days
in January which made everyone understandably very nervous. By the
time I got back, the program people for PC can only give two hours
very late in the night (or early in the morning) and you were all
already set to play at different times. With all the difficulties,
Lito, Ruben and I decided to look for another venue for the
Balangiga Concert.
The good news is that we now have a definite date and place. The
Cultural Center of the Philippines will be giving us a venue grant
to hold the concert at the Folk Arts Theater on July 19. It will be
part of Sangandaan, a month-long festival on the Philippine-American
experience. I'm told that close to 200 historians, academics,
cultural workers will be coming over from the US for this event. (Marami
dyan mga kadugo natin o half Pinoy.) Sangandaan will have exhibits,
plays (including the seditious plays), conferences, forums, film
showings, etc.
I hope you are still free on July 19 and are all in Manila. Please
reserve the date for the concert. (Jerby, let's arrange to get you
here about a week earlier.) This is all for now. More after we get
to talk details with the CCP technical people. Please send in any
suggestions for the concert program and people you think can help
(director, etc.). Maraming Salamat!
Peace out,
Becky
